Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Caesar Law Follow-up Team, Abdul Majeed Barakat, said that the new batch of sanctions the US imposed against individuals and entities affiliated with the Assad regime are more significant than the previous ones. He stressed that the new batch will stifle the Assad regime economically and hit its inner circle.
These US’s announcement of the new batch of sanctions coincided with the 5th anniversary of the Russian aggression against Syria, which has so far led to the death of thousands of civilians and the displacement of millions more.
Barakat stressed the need to strictly implement the sanctions, especially those targeting military and security commanders as well as the businessmen on whom the Assad regime depends to dodge sanctions.
Barakat reiterated the SOC’s fears that the Assad regime will make ordinary civilians bear the consequences of sanctions and will blame the sanctions for the deteriorating living conditions resulting from its malmanagement and its handover of the country’s resources and major asserts to the Russian and the Iranian invaders.
