Abdul Majeed Barakat, the Secretary of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), strongly denounced the ongoing bombing operations conducted by the forces of the Assad regime against civilians in the rural areas of Aleppo and Idlib. These attacks have resulted in numerous casualties, including the tragic loss of a child’s life.
In exclusive statements made on Thursday, Barakat highlighted that the relentless aggression displayed by the Assad regime and its allies in their war against the Syrian people is primarily fueled by the prevailing culture of impunity that has persisted for over 12 years.
He emphasized that the regime’s bombings and military escalations serve as a direct response to any political initiatives while reaffirming its absolute refusal to engage in a meaningful political process aimed at implementing UN resolutions on Syria and achieving a political solution that would alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and restore security and stability to the region.
Barakat called upon the international community to demonstrate genuine determination and take decisive action to impose a political solution on the regime, urging them to cease any further delays in the implementation of crucial international resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Activists have circulated images depicting the recent bombardments carried out by the forces of the Assad regime and Russia, employing heavy artillery shells on villages located in the western countryside of Aleppo and the northeastern countryside of Idlib.
The Syrian Civil Defense reported that these artillery attacks resulted in the loss of three civilians’ lives, including that of a child, his father, and another man, while 11 others, including two children and a woman, sustained injuries.
As a consequence of the relentless shelling, the village of Kafar Nouran in the western countryside of Aleppo and the road connecting it to the town of Maarat al-Na’asan and the village of Kityan in the northeastern countryside of Idlib witnessed the displacement of civilians who sought to escape the intense bombardment.
