The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, has penned a letter to Christodoulos Lazaris, the Greek ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye, regarding an investigation into the factors that led to the tragic sinking of a refugee boat off the Greek coast on June 14, claiming the lives of numerous individuals.
In his letter, Al-Meslet emphasized the profound impact of this heartbreaking incident on the Syrian people, serving as a poignant reminder of the immense challenges faced by individuals seeking safety and refuge, as well as the perils encountered during their treacherous journeys.
He further highlighted that, despite the passing of a few days since the tragedy, it remains imperative to continue contemplating the consequences of the event and the broader issues surrounding migration and the plight of refugees.
Al-Meslet underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to bolster collective endeavors aimed at ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals who embark on hazardous journeys in their quest to escape violence and oppression, seeking a secure and dignified life. He stressed that unless the root causes of their forced displacement from their homeland are addressed, such challenges will persist.
