The delegation of the Syrian National Coalition to Geneva held several meetings with international humanitarian aid organizations on the sidelines of the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Yasser Al-Farhan, Coordinator of the National Commission for the Defense of Detainees and Missing Persons, spoke about the disastrous humanitarian situation in Idlib and the southwestern rural Aleppo and the mass exodus of civilians resulting from the Russia and Assad regime’s intensifying onslaught on the region.
Al-Farhan stressed the role of humanitarian organizations in alleviating the humanitarian catastrophe as he reviewed the staggering figures of the people who have been internally displaced from their homes in recent weeks. He stressed the urgent need to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the IDP.
Al-Farhan talked about the plans being put up by international organizations to address the humanitarian catastrophe in northwestern Syria, especially in light of the destruction of vital civilian centers and medical facilities.
Moreover, Al-Farhan pointed to the need to accurately describe the humanitarian situation and send legal notes to the United Nations with the aim of putting more international pressure on Russia to stop its aggression against civilians in the region. He demanded that the regime must not be allowed to interfere in the work of humanitarian organizations or politicize their work.
He underscored the necessity of delivering aid to the most vulnerable groups, warning of the Assad regime’s seizure of the UN aid and use it for military purposes.
Hassan Khalil, member of the General Assembly, spoke about Russia, the Assad regime, and Iran’s use of internationally prohibited weapons against civilians in Idlib.
