Coordinator of the National Commission for Detainees and Missing Persons, Yasser Al-Farhan, held a virtual meeting with a number of female survivors from Assad’s prisons with the aim of hearing their testimonies, following their conditions, and urging them to form bodies expressing their demands.
Participants in the meeting discussed the survivors ’problems, the difficulties they are going through, and solutions and proposals in this regard. They put forward a recommendations to the Commission.
Al-Farhan stressed the need to convey the voice of survivors to international bodies and organizations in order to ensure that their rights are safeguarded and shed light on their cause in order to redress them and hold criminals accountable.
He said that the Commission is working to highlight detainees’ issues as a priority in any forum or meeting at the local, regional or international levels,. It is also submitting legal papers to the international community.
He pointed out that the Commission has many international channels to convey the voice of survivors, expressing the Commission’s belief that the survivors offer the best examples of the suffering of detainees. He stressed the need to provide them with opportunities to directly and continuously address international public opinion as he commended the degree of awareness and the size of the sacrifices they made and called for supporting the survivors.
