Salim Idris, the coordinator of the Office of Refugee Affairs at the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), presented a comprehensive report during a regular meeting held on Wednesday. The report unveiled the distressing continuation of racist campaigns by the Lebanese authorities targeting Syrian refugees, flagrantly violating international laws.
Idris specifically addressed the concerning issue of forced deportations of Syrian refugees. In response, the Office took proactive measures by sending a letter to the SOC’s president, urging him to intervene with international and regional authorities to halt Lebanon’s unjust deportation of refugees listed as wanted by the Assad regime.
Furthermore, the report shed light on the exacerbated suffering experienced by Syrian refugees in Lebanon, stemming from the closure of hospitals and clinics that were previously funded by charitable organizations and donor agencies. The report also emphasized persistent challenges faced by refugees in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, highlighting the unfortunate continuation of existing problems.
The report highlighted the efforts of non-governmental organizations in providing concrete housing units in Idlib for internally displaced persons who previously resided in tents. However, it acknowledged that a few unofficial camps still remain in Idlib, while a significant number of unofficial camps persist in other liberated areas across northwestern Syria.
