Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Refugee Affairs Adnan Rahmoun met with Deputy Director of the General Migration Management in Istanbul, Serdar Dal to discuss with him the conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkey and ways to improve their conditions and solve the problems facing them.
Rahmoun lauded the services that the Turkish government is providing to Syrian refugees in Turkey and the Turkish state’s support for the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom and dignity.
Rahmoun raised a number of important issues related to the conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkey, most notably the humanitarian issues, especially the family reunions with the elderly and with one of the divorced parents.
Rahmoun talked about the importance of facilitating the transfer of temporary protection from one province to another in emergency cases, as well as granting temporary protection status to children enrolled in Turkish schools in Istanbul.
For his part, Dal reaffirmed his country’s adherence to the approach welcoming Syrian refugees, providing them with all possible facilitations, and helping them solve all problems facing them.
Dal pointed out that some of the problems facing Syrian nationals in Turkey are the result of lack of awareness of Turkish laws related to Syrian refugees. He called for the launch of joint awareness raising campaigns by the Migration Management and the SOC’s Department of Refugee Affairs. The two parties agreed to hold more periodic meetings and continue cooperation and coordination in order to find solutions to the issues being sent to the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee.
