Mohammad Ali Issa, the coordinator of the Political Parties and Movements Working Group in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), presented the group’s work report to the members of the General Assembly during its 73rd session.
Issa discussed the Coalition’s ongoing efforts to expand participation in national decision-making amid the turmoil unfolding in the Middle East and its impact on Syria. He also spoke about the recent expanded consultative meeting held by the Political Parties and Currents Working Group with Syrian national parties. This meeting focused on exchanging views regarding political and field developments in the region and exploring the possible risks and opportunities arising from them.
Issa stressed that the meeting’s results were positive, with participants presenting a range of proposals, questions, and ideas for discussion. One key suggestion was to hold workshops to explore ways to prioritize a political solution for Syria within the broader list of global crises.
Issa pointed out that the Political Parties and Movements Working Group would work on implementing the recommendations from the consultative meeting. Among the most important were organizing workshops with political blocs and parties in Syria, holding regular group meetings to make critical political decision-making processes more inclusive, and expanding the group’s membership by inviting other parties and political movements to attend future meetings.
