The Ahrar Horan activist group reported that Mohammad Qaddah, a young man from Daraa, was killed due to torture in one of Assad regime’s prisons after spending nine years in detention.
The group mentioned that Qaddah’s family received news of his death in a detention center under the control of the Air Force Intelligence, causing shock among his family and the local community.
Qaddah was detained in 2015 at a military checkpoint belonging to Air Force Intelligence in the Al-Maliha town in rural Damascus. He was then transferred to the infamous Palestine Branch, where he endured severe torture before later being moved to another detention center, where he ultimately died from systematic torture, according to the Ahrar Horan group.
Previously, Qaddah’s mother and two young brothers were also detained by the Assad regime, only to be released after five years through a prisoner exchange deal. Another brother, Mohammad Qaddah, was killed by regime forces during clashes in eastern Ghouta in 2018.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) renewed its call for the international community to take responsibility for Syrian detainees held in Assad regime prisons, urging action to ensure their release, protect them, and hold accountable those responsible for the atrocities committed against them.
The SOC warned against continued inaction and disregard for Syrian lives, stressing that those who fail to assist are complicit in the crimes committed against them.
