The delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) and the Syrian Negotiations Commission met the Head of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa at the French Foreign Ministry, Anne Gueguen, and discussed with her the latest field and political developments in Syria on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two sides discussed the need to revitalize the political process which is stalled due to the procrastination of the Assad regime with the support of Russia and Iran. They stressed the importance of reaching a political solution in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 in order to achieve a genuine political transition in the country.
For her part, Gueguen reaffirmed her country’s continued support for the Syrian revolution and the cause of the Syrian people, stressing that France rejects the normalization of ties with the Assad regime or attempts to rehabilitate it.
