In meetings that were aired live for the first time, members of the General Assembly discussed a range of issues over the past two days, most notably the files of the interim government and the international strikes against ISIS. Nazir al-Hakim, Secretary of the political committee, said that “our main battle is against the Assad regime, while fighting ISIS is just part of that struggle for a better Syria. Similarly, Abdul Basit Sida said that the Assad regime is “an expert in the marketing and export of terrorist groups, which are primarily responsible for what is happening in Syria,” while Mustafa al-Ali, member of the General Assembly, said that the Assad regime and the Iranian and Hezbollah militias are the arch-terrorists as they have laid a crippling siege on civilians in East Ghouta and other Syrian cities. Mohammed Dandil, member of the Syrian Coalition, wonders how Syrians would trust the US-led anti-ISIS campaign when it has so far been not backed by a clear plan to equip and arm the Free Syrian Army. The Free Syrian Army is not short of training as it is in short of arms and ammunition. Furthermore, Ahmed Ramadan said that all previous efforts aimed at reaching a consensus at the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly or buffer zone in Syria were blocked by the double Russian and Chinese vetoes.
