Vice-President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ruba Habboush, recently attended the annual conference of the Iranian opposition in Paris, where she delivered a speech. Habboush emphasized the importance of unity and continued efforts to overthrow both the mullahs’ regime in Iran and the Assad regime in Syria. She called for an end to all sectarian terrorist militias associated with these regimes, as they pose a threat to the security and stability of the region and the world as a whole.
In her speech, Habboush conveyed greetings from the mothers of the fallen heroes and revolutionaries in Syria, who have tragically lost their lives over the past 12 years due to the collaboration between the Assad regime and the Iranian regime.
Habboush highlighted the grave danger posed by the Iranian regime, primarily to the Iranian people themselves. She emphasized that the Iranian people have suffered and continue to suffer politically, economically, socially, and culturally under a criminal regime that exploits their resources and commits heinous acts of arrest and killing, all while the world merely responds with empty statements, sanctions, or conferences in support of the Iranian resistance. There is a pressing need for concrete action to halt the atrocities of this criminal regime and allow the Iranian people to reclaim their freedom and democracy, she added.
The Vice-President also drew attention to the international community’s lack of effective action in addressing the crimes committed by the Assad regime against the Syrian people. She underscored that issuing statements, delivering speeches, and expressing solidarity are insufficient without tangible measures to halt Assad’s atrocities.
Habboush stressed that the Iranian regime extends its criminality by supporting the Assad regime, responsible for the ongoing killing of Syrians, as well as the terrorist Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, the Houthi group in Yemen, and sectarian militias in Iraq. She emphasized that the entire Middle East region suffers from the destructive sectarian agenda pursued by the Iranian regime, which seeks to impose its influence on neighboring countries. Habboush cautioned that this project goes beyond Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen, as the Iranian regime utilizes soft expansion, sectarianism, loyalty buying, and exploiting people’s needs, ultimately leading to military occupation of these nations.
The Vice-President emphasized the necessity for people in the region, striving for freedom and democracy, to unite and confront this criminal regime and its agenda. She asserted that any reconciliation or truce with the Iranian regime would result in more bloodshed, demographic changes, sectarianism, and destruction.
Habboush expressed confidence in the eventual downfall of these criminal sectarian regimes and stressed that the will of the people will prevail. She expressed hope for a future in which the Iranian regime is replaced by a national and democratic government that upholds human rights and freedom, contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.
