President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ruba Habboush, said that she is proud of the resilience, strength and struggle of Syrian women, adding that Syrian women today offer a shining example for the women of the world thanks to their successes and defiance of the various hardships.
In a speech on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Habboush said: “We do not want International Women’s Day to be just a protocol in which flowers are distributed and photos are hung on the walls of gross violations of women’s rights, or a social occasion to show political hypocrisy and false sympathy.” She stressed that women want serious actions that express respect and appreciation for women by deterring tyrannical and dictatorial regimes that kill and arrest women and destroy their dignity, as the criminal Assad regime does.
Habboush also stressed to the need to move forward in strengthening the role of women, especially after they proved their competence in all fields. She pointed out that the great struggle that Syrian women have gone through during these years of the revolution qualifies them to assume a senior position in the decision-making circles.
Habboush expressed the solidarity of Syrian women with the Ukrainian people, especially women, in the face of the unjust war that the Russian regime is waging against the Ukrainian people. She stressed that the catastrophe is the same for the Syrian and Ukrainian peoples because the enemy is one and the same.
Habboush stressed that Syrian women will remain the bulwark, the major pillar in society, the safe haven, and the hope for rebuilding the Syrian society and its cohesive social fabric.
