Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Nasr al-Hariri, called on the leaders of Arab countries not to turn their backs on the Syrian people, warning of the dire consequence of some of these countries’ restoration of ties with the Assad regime which gave Iran a free hand in Syria.
In a press conference on Sunday, Hariri expressed his surprise at the “brothers’ extension of bridges of understandings and their restoration of ties with the Assad regime under the pretext of countering the Iranian influence.” He described these moves as grave as the Assad regime will not take any serious steps against Tehran.
“This is a historic moment. Either we give up Syria to the Assad regime and the Iranian militias to further expand their influence and commit more crimes against the Syrian people, or we shoulder our responsibility and address the future risks,” Hariri said.
Vice-President of the Syrian Coalition, Badr Jamous, earlier said that some Arab countries’ normalization of ties with the Assad regime is a “grave mistake.” He noted that these countries are not yet aware of the depth of the relationship between the Assad and Iranian regimes or the extent of correlation of their projects. He said that these regimes complement each other.
Jamous underscored that attempts to sideline the will of the Syrian people and to rehabilitate the criminals and the prevention of justice will make reaching a sustainable peace in the country a distant dream. He warned that such attempts risk generating new waves of violence and paving the way for the reemergence of ISIS.
Moreover, Jamous stressed that the Syrian people are stronger than ever and will insist on their legitimate demands for freedom and dignity. “We are working to achieve the wishes and goals of our people.
