Head of the Commission for the Affairs of Detainees and Missing Persons, Yasser Al-Farhan, and Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office in rural Aleppo, Ahmed Al-Shehadi, met Head and members of the Association for the Care of Prisoners and Their Families in the town of Azaz in the presence of the Commander of the Free Military Police Force, Brigadier General Ahmad Kurdi.
The two sides discussed the situation inside the prisons being run by the Military Police and the Association’s work in rehabilitating the prisoners and taking care of their families.
Head of the Association, Muhammad Kahil, talked about the Association’s role in visiting prisons, ascertaining the conditions inside the cells, and taking care of the families of prisoners.
Al-Farhan praised the Association’s work and the role of the Free Military Police Force in cooperating with the Association, and allowing the Association’s members to play their important role towards prisoners.
He pointed out that prisons are correctional and punitive centers, adding that human dignity of prisoners must be preserved even if they were condemned. He also stressed that prisoners must receive fair trial.
Al-Farhan also stressed the need to improve conditions inside the prisons in the liberated areas. The two sides agreed on the importance of constant cooperation and the work to ensure commitment to the principles of the Syrian revolution and international law. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
