General Coordinator of the opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) Riad Hijab said that the decision to suspend participation in the Geneva talks on Syria came out of respect for the blood of the Syrian people who are being killed by the bombardments, starvation and torture by the Assad regime and its allies.
Hijab, who accompanied German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during a visit to Syrians refugee camps in southern Turkey on Saturday, told reporters that killings and sieges in Syria have increased since Staffan de Mistura was appointed by the United Nations as a special envoy to Syria over two years ago.
Hijab expressed the HNC’s dismay that no progress has been achieved in the humanitarian issues and at the Assad regime’s violations of the truce. He added that these are the main reasons why the HNC decided to suspend participation in the Geneva talks. (Source: Agencies)
