Member of the political committee Khatib Badlah called for the immediate release of Gabriel Qorriya, member of the Assyrian Democratic Organization’s political bureau. Today marks two years since Qorriya was detained by the Assad regime in the city of Qamishli.
Badlah stressed that the continued arrest of political dissidents, including Qorriya, represents stark evidence that Assad continues to pursue repressive policies in Syria. It also refutes his lies about accepting a political solution.
Badlah also said that the Assad regime’s daily crimes belie its claims about being the protector of minorities in Syria. Badlah called upon international bodies and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to ensure the safety of detainees in Assad’s prisons, including women and children who have been detained since the start of the revolution in March 2011.
