Member of the Syrian Coalition Qasim al-Khatib denies welcoming the Russian aggression against Syria, adding that no honorable Syrian citizen accepts this aggression, which aims to strengthen the crumbling Assad regime.
Khatib condemns the Russian aggression on Syria, calling on the international community to react to this blatant intervention which aims to prop up a regime that lost its legitimacy after killing 100,000s of civilians and targeted places of worship, schools, children and hospitals.
Khatib met with the Russian president’s envoy to the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov in Cairo, and stated that Russian air forces bombed residential areas and rebel positions. The airstrikes has allowed ISIS militants to advance on rural Aleppo and aggravates the refugee crisis.
He warns that the Russian airstrikes will attract more extremist elements to Syria and allow Iranian sectarian militias to expand its hegemony on Syria. He added that all spectra of the Syrian opposition are committed to the Geneva I Communique and the UN Security Council resolutions and rejects giving Bashar al-Assad in any role in the transitional process or in Syria’s future.
