The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council emphasized that the elections the terrorist PYD militia is preparing to hold in areas under its control east of the Euphrates River “are taking place in a non-neutral environment, with results predetermined to consolidate the PYD’s authority and hegemony, based on an ideologically driven social contract.”
In a statement following its regular meeting in Qamishli on May 25, the General Secretariat asserted that these elections “lack legitimacy.”
The General Secretariat condemned the PYD militia’s attacks on the offices of the Council and its affiliated parties, as well as their continued kidnapping of members of the Kurdish National Council and its supporters, actions that contradict all values and principles of human rights.
The General Secretariat called for the immediate release of the abductees, an end to these acts of terror, and an end to the restrictions on people’s freedoms and the extortion of civilians.
The General Secretariat also addressed the tragic conditions of the Syrian people, noting the obstruction of efforts to find a political solution in Syria in accordance with UN resolutions. It held the Assad regime responsible for this obstruction and the worsening suffering of Syrians in general, stressing that the solution to the Syrian crisis is based on relevant UN resolutions, most notably Resolution 2254.
