Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, stressed that the Assad regime continues to carry out arrests and torture in various Syrian regions despite issuing a decision criminalizing torture.
Maktabi pointed out that detention and torture are inherent in the Assad regime’s behavior and one of the major tools it is using to crush the revolution and silence its opponents.
The local Voice of the Capital website reported that the Assad regime’s forces have recently raided the town of Jaba’deen in the western Qalamoun region in rural Damascus. They detained seven young men, including a young man whose foot was amputated in previous injury he suffered at regime shelling.
The report indicated that the Assad regime forces closed all roads leading to the town, amid tightened security at the checkpoints surrounding the town.
It also pointed out that elements of the Military Security branch raided several houses in the vicinity of the Ammar bin Yasser mosque and the Hamza mosque on the outskirts of the town.
It added that the regime forces searched the targeted houses and checked the identity cards of their residents in search of wanted people.
