The opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) condemned the Assad regime’s escalating military attacks on many areas across Syria, especially in Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib, Hama and Latakia.
Spokesman for the HNC Salem al-Meslet said that the Assad regime’s recently escalated aerial bombings are not only brutal attacks on defenseless Syrian civilians, but also an attack on the Geneva talks. Meslet stressed the need for stopping bombardment by Assad’s forces to allow the resumption of negotiations.
Meslet called on the international community to force the Assad regime to stop aerial bombardment and barrel bombings as well as to lift blockades on the besieged areas. He denounced the UN’s inability to perform its duty to protect civilians in Syria.
Meslet called upon the Russian President Vladimir Putin to put pressure on Assad in order to stop violating UN Security Council resolutions, which were approved by Russia.
Meslet commended calls by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to establish safe areas inside Syria to protect Syria’s displaced population. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
