Abdul Majeed Barakat, the Coordinator of the Office of Unions and Federations within the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), delivered a report on the office’s activities over the past two years. He highlighted the office’s accomplishments in advancing the field of unions and sports federations.
The report emphasized that the office made significant progress in the field of free sports. It addressed the issue of redundancy in the free sports domain by establishing the Sports and Youth Commission as an integral part of the Syrian Interim Government. The office took on the responsibility of overseeing its activities and participating in its meetings. Additionally, the office organized numerous sports tournaments.
Furthermore, Barakat explained that the office actively engaged with unions, federations, and associations. It closely monitored the formation of unions by participating in founding conferences and regular meetings. The office also paid particular attention to student unions, notably the establishment of the Free Syrian Students Union, which resulted from the amalgamation of student unions in liberated area universities.
The report highlighted the office’s involvement with youth associations, including significant participation in activities and meetings, with a notable mention of the Rebel Syrian Youth Association.
The report underscored the success of the office in enhancing coordination between the SOC and various associations, federations, and unions compared to previous years. This increased coordination aims to bolster institutional work by fostering collaboration between the office, the Syrian Interim Government, and the associations, unions, and federations. Ultimately, this effort aims to elevate public awareness and streamline the work of civil society.
