Armed opposition groups announced the formation of the Southern Operations Room on Friday, emphasizing that “the destination is Damascus, and the meeting point is the Umayyad Square.”
The statement highlighted that Syria is currently experiencing a comprehensive national liberation movement, which began with the initial spark of revolution in Houran, the cradle of the uprising. It added that those who have had the honor of igniting this movement must unite with Syria’s revolutionaries under a collective national identity. This unity is based on a national stance that emphasizes the sanctity of Syrian blood and aims to end authoritarian rule and achieve justice, dignity, and equality.
The statement affirmed that the world has witnessed the people of Houran’s ability to preserve the security and stability of southern Syria. It noted that they are now engaged in an epic of resilience, a battle for dignity, and a fight for ultimate justice. A call was made to the people and revolutionaries of the south to join forces for freedom and dignity and work together to build a new Syria.
The statement also addressed the people of Suwaida and Quneitra, saying, “We stand at the gates of Damascus as partners in this liberation alongside the steadfast people of Suwaida and the honorable revolutionaries of Quneitra. We extend our hands for cooperation with all components of a new, unified Syria—free from terrorism and sectarianism and aspiring for liberation from tyranny.”
The Southern Operations Room’s statement emphasized maintaining secure and stable borders in the south, calling on all nations to support the Syrian people’s decision to attain freedom, dignity, and the establishment of a civil state.
It urged the people of Houran to protect and safeguard state institutions from vandalism and destruction, reflecting a commitment to the continuity of civil institutions. The statement also called on Assad’s forces to join the path of a new Syria and defect from the criminal regime.
Since yesterday, Daraa Province has witnessed military operations aimed at liberating areas of Daraa and expelling regime checkpoints. Local media reported that regime forces withdrew from the town of Inkhil, west of the province, on Friday after sporadic attacks on checkpoints and military posts throughout the province.
Additionally, the town of Nawa in northern Daraa witnessed clashes on Thursday near the Military Security outpost between local fighters and regime forces. The attackers used light and medium weapons as well as grenades. In response, the regime targeted the town with artillery shells fired from Tel al-Jabiya.
