The political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) convened its regular meeting on Thursday, addressing the latest developments on the ground and in the political arena. The committee examined reports from SOC’s representatives in Europe, directors of its offices in Türkiye, and updates from various work groups and networks.
During the session, the committee commemorated the late Syrian activist, Riyad al-Turk, delving into aspects of his biography etched in the memories of Syrians. Special attention was given to his steadfast opposition against tyranny and unwavering support for the people’s aspirations, a cause that rallied and united Syrians in their struggle.
SOC’s President National, Hadi Al-Bahra, provided a comprehensive briefing, highlighting the outcomes of the meeting with the leadership of the Kurdish National Council. He also reported on the progress of working groups and the efforts by the Bar Association to address ongoing disputes within their union. Al-Bahra underscored the SOC’s commitment to the judicial resolution process and its dedication to supporting the independence of union work.
Zuhair Muhammad, the Coordinator of the Syrian Communities Working Group, presented a report detailing the outcomes of the group’s meeting with representatives of the Syrian community in the United States. The aim was to apprise them of SOC’s action plan and its vision at both political and local levels. Emphasis was placed on the significance of enhancing cooperation and coordination with Syrian communities worldwide, ensuring their active involvement in the reconstruction of Syria.
Additionally, the Consultations and Studies Working Group conducted an assessment of critical issues influencing the Syrian crisis at regional and international levels. The recent briefing by the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, presented to the Security Council, was also a focal point of discussion during the meeting.
