President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, has criticized the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, for his recent statements during his visit to areas controlled by the Assad regime.
According to Al-Meslet, Ghebreyesus’ statements are too little, too late. Al-Meslet also questioned whether representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations had conveyed to him the extent of destruction caused by the Assad regime in Syrian cities and towns.
Al-Meslet emphasized that the Syrian people have suffered greatly over the past 12 years due to the violence perpetrated by the Assad regime, its allies, militias, and mercenaries.
He further pointed out that the United Nations, and specifically the World Health Organization, was slow to respond to the disaster that occurred on February 6, and failed to recognize the heavy toll that the Syrian people have paid since the beginning of the conflict in 2011.
