The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council condemned the decision of the PYD militia to prevent the holding of its fourth conference which was to be held in the Zana Hall in the town of Qamishli on Monday. It also denounced the PYD’s repressive practices against participants in the conference.
The Council stressed that the practices of the PYD militia will not discourage it from continuing its struggle by all peaceful and democratic means to achieve the goals for which the Kurdish people fought with the aim of achieving their national rights and build a pluralistic, democratic Syria for all Syrians.
“This blatant violation of the Council’s right exposed once again the extent of the PYD’s tyranny, its reliance on the use of force, and the falsity of its claims as it continues to crack down on freedoms and prevent political action,” the Council said in a statement.
The Council called on the United States to put an end to the practices of the PYD militia, pointing out that the United States had assured the Council that it could hold its conference safely without interference from the PYD militia.
PYD militants on Monday raided the Zana Hall in the town of Qamishli and forced those present in the hall to leave using threats and intimidation. The Council had to move its meeting to the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, but the PYD militants raided the meeting again and forced them to break up their meeting.
