Muhammad Qaddah, a member of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), said that the Assad regime and its allied militias are the primary cause of past and present violations in the southern Syrian province of Daraa. He made these remarks in response to a statement by Hussein al-Rifai, a member of the Ba’ath Party.
Qaddah added that the crimes and violations committed by the Assad regime in Daraa are acts of revenge against the people of the region, who continue to uphold the spirit of the great Syrian revolution and firmly reject Assad’s authority over the province. He continued: “The regime’s continued claim of resistance has become laughable after it protected the Israeli entity for decades, and its slogans have been exposed in serious situations.”
In a statement on Monday, Qaddah emphasized that the international community’s tolerance of partial and failed solutions in Daraa has led to instability in the region and continued tensions and violations by the Assad regime and its allied local militias.
He also noted that no solution in Syria can be reached as long as the Assad regime, which is widely rejected by the people, remains in power. He stressed that there is no alternative to a political solution in accordance with UN resolutions, especially Resolution 2254. He stressed the need to respond to the Syrian people’s desire for political transition and to ensure accountability for war criminals and those responsible for grave violations against civilians over the past years.
