Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haitham Rahma, stressed that the continued Russian threats to invade Ukraine, the occupation of Crimea and parts of Georgia, and its support for Assad prove that Moscow has become the biggest source of instability and the number one supporter of dictatorships around the world.
Rahma pointed out that the lukewarm attitudes of the international community in recent years towards Russia’s crimes in a number of countries, including Syria in particular, allowed Russia to ratchet up its colonial practices and ambitions. He said that Russia is seeking to impose a new equation in which all international agreements governing relations between states are nullified, and the rights to freedom and dignity are violated.
Rahma pointed out that the international community is required to put an end to Russian arrogance and prevent Moscow from interfering in the affairs of states and violating their sovereignty through direct aggression or agreements with illegitimate regimes, especially the criminal Assad regime.
