The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, strongly condemned the brutal Russian airstrikes on a village in the outskirts of Manbij, Northern Syria. These airstrikes occurred after Arab tribal fighters had gained control of the village on Friday. Rahmeh emphasized that this savage attack unequivocally indicates a collusion between the PYD militia, the Assad regime, and Russian forces.
Rahmeh expressed his solidarity with the tribes in Deir Ezzor and Manbij who are confronting the PYD militia. He noted that this militia aims to suppress civilians within its territories, exploit the nation’s resources, and bolster its separatist forces, which have been committing numerous violations against the local population for years.
Rahmeh asserted that the PYD militia is using its disputes with partners as a pretext to launch attacks on Deir Ezzor province and quell the ongoing anti-regime movement there. This is especially concerning following the participation of locals in demonstrations supporting the ongoing anti-regime movement in Suwayda and Daraa.
Rahmeh appealed to all those who have been deceived and are still affiliated with the PYD militia to defect immediately and seek safety with their families, joining those clansmen who have risen against these terrorist forces.
Furthermore, Rahmeh highlighted that the PYD militia and Assad’s forces operate as two sides of the same coin, employing similarly brutal tactics in their dealings with civilians. This is evident in their extensive bombing of inhabited villages, unjust arrests of civilians, and the recruitment of children into their ranks.
