Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, praised the tremendous courage being shown by the people of Suwayda province against the Assad regime. He said that the people of Suwayda are chanting the slogans that the Syrian people have been chanting for over 11 years, and which were heard by the whole world, namely ‘the people want the overthrow of the regime.’
Rahmeh added: “We salute to our people in Suwayda who are revolting against the criminal Assad regime despite the brutality of the security forces that the regime uses to kill and terrorize civilians.
“The heroes of Suwayda refuted the regime’s myth of protecting minorities, and sent a clear message from Jabal Al-Arab in the south to Jabal Al-Zawiya in the north. We stand in solidarity with the demonstrators who are facing the brutality and terror of the Assad regime, which did not change its repressive tactics, firing live bullets at unarmed protestors.”
Rahmeh pointed out that the Suwayda uprising is a reminder to everyone who tries to normalize relations with the Assad regime that this regime cannot be rehabilitated or re-legitimized. He stressed that these protests prove that the Syrian people did not abandon their goals and demands despite all the terrorism of the Assad regime which is using chemical weapons, bombing and barrel bombs in its war against the Syrian people.”
“The Syrian people, with its various components, are writing the history of modern Syria in a manner befitting the greatness of this people,” he added.
Rahmeh called on the Arab and international media to pay more attention to the ongoing uprising in Suwayda as it clearly reflects the insistence of the Syrian people on toppling the murderous regime and regaining their freedom and dignity.
