The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, has lauded the unwavering resolve and strong determination exhibited by the people of Suwayda. They have been actively expressing the Syrian people’s collective demands for freedom, political transition, and the implementation of UN Resolution 2254 through continuous and large-scale anti-regime demonstrations.
Rahmeh expressed, “We take pride in and extend our full support to the people of Suwayda, as well as the notable figures and activists spearheading a peaceful and civilized movement. This movement is a true reflection of the Syrian people’s cultural essence and their genuine yearning for peace and freedom.” He particularly commended the recent statements and honorable positions taken by Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hijri.
Highlighting that the people of Suwayda embody a strong political and national consciousness, Rahmeh emphasized their alignment with the rightful demands of the Syrian people. He underscored their integral role as an extension of the Syrian revolution initiated in 2011 against the Assad regime.
Rahmeh emphasized the solidarity demonstrated by the people of Suwayda with those in Idlib province. This solidarity was showcased through their banners raised in support following the intense bombing by the Assad regime and its allies on civilians. This, Rahmeh believes, is a clear manifestation of the cohesion of the Syrian people, the unity of their demands, and their unequivocal desire to realize a free Syria in the post-Assad era.
