Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Secretary-General Haytham Rahmeh has called on the international community to deal fairly with the Syrian and Ukrainian crises. Rahmeh criticized the community for ignoring the atrocities committed by the Assad regime, while focusing on Russian forces’ actions in Ukraine.
He urged the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant against Bashar al-Assad, stating that the Syrian people suffered through years of crimes committed by the regime, particularly the use of chemical weapons.
Rahmeh cited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which found the Assad regime guilty of using chemical weapons after thorough investigations. He also condemned the regime’s role in supporting Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Rahmeh emphasized that the Syrian people deserve fair treatment in the international community, as they continue to fight against the murderous Assad regime.
Rahmeh welcomed the sanctions imposed by the US Treasury and the United Kingdom against individuals affiliated with the Assad regime’s production and trade of Captagon. He called for continued sanctions and efforts to isolate the Assad regime, in preparation for holding it accountable for its crimes. He expressed support for accountability of all criminals around the world, and wished safety and salvation for the Ukrainian people after they were attacked by the same criminal forces that attacked Syria.
