Haytham Rahmeh, the Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), has welcomed Ukraine’s efforts against the Assad regime. He expressed his gratitude to Ukraine’s leadership and people for supporting the Syrian people’s struggle for freedom against criminal forces for over 12 years. Rahmeh emphasized that both the Syrian and Ukrainian causes are just.
Rahmeh also pointed out that the efforts of some countries to normalize relations with the Assad regime will not contribute to solving the Syrian crisis. Instead, it will strengthen the regime and encourage it to commit more atrocities against the Syrian people. He added that the regime, being a puppet of Iran, has harbored nothing but hatred for the Arabs for years. Countries seeking to normalize with it will only face crises, drugs, and terrorism.
Furthermore, Rahmeh urged the international community to hold the Assad regime accountable for its crimes and tighten its isolation. This is not only to show respect for the victims of this regime but also to maintain regional peace, confront Iran’s influence, end the Captagon trade, and eradicate the terrorist sectarian militias that the criminal regime has brought to Syria.
