The Syrian Civil Defense has strongly condemned the recent attacks on residential areas by the Assad regime and Russia, calling them a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. The organization emphasized that accountability and the absence of impunity are crucial in preventing such deadly assaults.
In a statement released on Monday, the Civil Defense reported that regime forces and Russian military units targeted the town of Sarmin in rural Idlib on Sunday, resulting in the death of a child and injury to four others. The organization pointed out that such bombings serve no purpose other than to kill and terrorize civilians, depriving them of stability and creating a sense of fear and panic.
The Assad regime and Russia have systematically targeted residential areas, as well as essential sources of livelihood, in an attempt to intimidate and terrorize civilians who are still recovering from the earthquake disaster. These attacks are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and run contrary to all humanitarian values and principles.
The Syrian Civil Defense called on the international community to take immediate action to stop these egregious violations of human rights and to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions. The organization stressed that only through accountability and justice can we prevent such heinous attacks from occurring in the future. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
