The Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria has highlighted the alarming situation faced by Palestinian-Syrians in the Khan Al-Sheih camp, revealing that they have been subjected to arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance by the security and military forces of the Assad regime since the onset of the Syrian revolution in 2011.
The London-based monitoring group has meticulously documented the detention of at least 248 Palestinian-Syrians by the Assad regime’s security services from Khan Al-Sheih camp near Damascus. These individuals were apprehended from within the camp or at military checkpoints while traveling between cities, or even from their places of work or study.
The report underscores that the fate of these detainees remains unknown to this day, as the Assad regime authorities refuse to disclose the reasons behind their arrest, their whereabouts, or their health and legal status. The monitoring group further notes that it has received credible information regarding the tragic deaths of 621 Palestinian-Syrians under torture in regime prisons since March 2011, in addition to numerous unverified cases.
The rights group unequivocally holds the Assad regime fully responsible for the safety and freedom of the Palestinian-Syrian detainees, urging their immediate and unconditional release. Furthermore, it calls upon the international community, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to intervene promptly to safeguard the lives and rights of these individuals.
