Anti-regime demonstrations unfolded on Thursday across the provinces of Daraa, Suwayda, and Deir Ezzor. The protestors fervently called for freedom and the ousting of the Assad regime. These protests were synchronized with calls for extensive demonstrations on the upcoming Friday, scheduled not only in Syrian cities but also in nations hosting Syrian refugees.
Bearing banners that underscored the unwavering continuity of the Syrian Revolution, the unity of the Syrian people, and the resolute pursuit of their demands for freedom, honor, and democracy, the demonstrators made their intentions clear.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extended its salute to all participants and revolutionaries throughout the nation. They acknowledged their steadfastness against the military machine deployed by the Assad regime to quell protests and stifle civilian expressions of freedom.
The SOC emphasized the perilous trajectory the Assad regime is pushing the country towards due to its persistent engagement in criminal acts and the replication of policies that hinder the reestablishment of security, stability, and normalcy. This is compounded by the ongoing pilfering of both public funds and state institutions through Iran-backed militias and affiliated cronies.
Linda Thomas Greenfield, the United States’ representative to the United Nations, addressed the recent developments in Syria during a UN Security Council session. “In recent days, we’ve seen peaceful protests in cities like Daraa and Al Suweida, where Syrians have called for political changes and for all parties to uphold Resolution 2254. These are areas where the revolution started, and it is clear that peaceful demands have not been met,” she said.
Stephen Schneck, the German special envoy to Syria, took to Twitter to commend the valor of the people in Suwayda and Daraa, who ardently seek justice and freedom. He appealed to the regime to abstain from violence against these nonviolent protests.
