In the wake of Russia’s downed warplane over rural Latakia, Russian and the Assad regime media outlets circulated fabricated and false photos and videos to suggest ISIS elements are present in the area over which the Russian airplane was shot down yesterday.
Russian media released a video footage claiming to show the two Russian pilots parachuting after their plane was shot down by Turkish fighter jets. The video actually dates back to April 2015 and was filmed near Kweris airbase in Aleppo. It shows ISIS militants shooting at a regime pilot who was parachuting after his warplane was shot down. Moreover, the video footage bears the logo of ISIS’s semi-official news agency Amaq.
An official source at the Syrian Coalition said that Russia continues to lie in order to cover up its actions targeting the Free Syrian Army and civilians instead of ISIS.
“It has become clear that Russian aggression is designed to prop up the crumpling Assad regime. By targeting the FSA, Russia is directly aiding ISIS.”(Source: Syrian Coalition)
