George Sabra, former president of the Syrian Coalition, said that “Geneva II wouldn’t result in a peaceful solution without real guarantees.” Sabra also states that Russia and Iran seek to “sow division among Syrian revolutionaries through sorting them into moderates and hardliners, and through insisting that the goal of Geneva II must be fighting terrorism.” Furthermore, Sabra addressed those who are being rushed into going to Geneva II, saying that “the latest statements made by the Assad regime and his allies indicate that Geneva II is not meant to achieve a political solution. Rather, those statements indicate that their real goal is legalize killing of the Syrian people.” Sabra went on: “Without getting real guarantees, the outcome of Geneva II would mean nothing to the Syrian people and this is why going to the conference is met with outright rejection.” Moreover, Sabra raised doubts about the Assad regime’s willingness to reach a political solution, as “this means its inevitable downfall.” Sabra points out that “Assad wasted many opportunities for ending the bloodshed, as the only language he understands is destruction.” Sabra also stresses that “all Assad’s decisions are largely dictated by Iran.” Sabra described the truce in Moadamyeh between the residents of the district and regime forces as a humanitarian blackmail. “The regime’s practices prove it is an Iranian puppet, as it uses civilians and children to put pressure on the revolutionaries.” Sabra hailed the people of Moadamyeh whom he described as “heroes who all politicians bow to their great courage,” despite agreeing to a truce with the regime. Sabra’s statement comes after the Assad regime forced the residents of Moadamyeh to raise its flag over the district in return for allowing entry of food and baby milk to the people trapped inside.
