The Syrian Interim Government’s (SIG) Ministry of Education issued a special report on the elementary and secondary school exams for the academic year 2020 which took place in the liberated areas in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Latakia, in addition to the Lebanon office.
According to the report, the Ministry’s plan of action included several stages, including preparation, registration, preparation of exam questions, exam requirements, necessary health measures, course of exams, final number of applicants, and attendance percentage.
The report indicated that the exams of the literary studies of the secondary school took place on 4-18 July, while the exams of the scientific studies took place on 4-21 July 2020. Elementary school exams took place on 4-18 July.
The Ministry compiled figures on the numbers of students who sat the 2020 exams of the elementary and secondary schools, the preparatory and secondary Sharia schools, and secondary vocational school. It pointed out that out of 24,717 registered students, 23,209 sat the 2020 exams at an attendance rate of 94 percent.
The Ministry took the necessary preventive measures with regards to the coronavirus pandemic, including sterilization of the exam centers, providing masks for the educational staff and students, equipping centers with sterilizers, and preventing gatherings.
