The Secretary of the political committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, has highlighted two critical issues discussed during a recent committee meeting, which have garnered significant attention and engagement among Syrians.
The first issue revolves around the burgeoning peaceful anti-regime movement in southern Syria, while the second pertains to the brutal offensive conducted by the PYD militia in Deir Ezzor province.
Barakat emphasized that the committee hosted researchers and activists from the eastern region to shed light on the situation east of the Euphrates. This discussion aimed to understand the actions undertaken by the SOC to assist the local populace in countering the PYD militia’s crimes and violations against civilians, as well as its continuous efforts to disrupt the social fabric of Syria.
He stressed that the SOC is actively working to establish communication with relevant international stakeholders to draw attention to the dire consequences of the PYD militia’s actions against civilians east of the Euphrates. This campaign, he noted, targets Syrians of all backgrounds and ethnicities.
Barakat highlighted that the ongoing peaceful anti-regime movement in southern Syria and the military campaign initiated by the PYD militia east of the Euphrates mark a crucial phase. Syrians need to prepare for potential political changes at both local and regional levels.
He underlined that the growing anti-regime protests in Suwayda inspire hope that a genuine solution can be reached in the country, and that the Syrian issue can regain prominence on the international agenda.
Barakat concluded by stating that the SOC is committed to conveying the voice of the Syrian people in international forums, offering support to their movements and resistance efforts.
