The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) saluted every mother for her vital role in the Syrian revolution and in sustaining the family and society amid the challenges of war. It especially honored the Syrian mothers who have endured immense suffering and hardship under Assad’s regime, which has caused forced displacement, killings, detentions, and atrocities against women since 2011.
In a press release issued on the occasion of On Mother’s Day, the SOC said: “For more than a decade, the Syrian mothers have not celebrated this day as they should. They have lost their husbands, children, homes, and dignity at the hands of Assad’s brutal forces. Nearly 24,000 women have been killed by this regime so far, while millions more have been displaced inside or outside Syria.” The SOC appreciated and respects all mothers on their special day. “We stand with them in their struggle for freedom, justice, and dignity. We pray for their safety, health, well-being, and hope that one day soon they will see peace restored in their beloved country.”
