The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the new revelation by the local newspaper, Zaman al-Wasl, in which it confirmed, through testimonies and photos, the murder of 800 detainees in Aleppo Central Prison, constitutes additional evidence and new proof of the criminal and immutable nature of the Assad regime.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC said that the new trove of photos also demonstrated the way this regime deals with detainees in its prisons, which are more like human slaughterhouses.
“The testimonies published by the newspaper revealed the Assad regime’s murder of hundreds of prisoners by summary executions, starvation, and lines. These testimonies were corroborated by the testimonies revealed by Caesar and hundreds of other pieces of evidence that have already exposed the extent of the Assad regime’s brutality towards whoever suspected of demanding freedom or supporting the Syrian Revolution,” the SOC added.
The SOC called on the United Nations to review the new evidence and condemn the Assad regime for massacring prisons in the Aleppo Central Prison. “This crime is part of a series of war crimes and crimes against humanity that the Assad regime is committing without any international deterrent.”
“These crimes clearly indicate that this murderous regime and its allies adopt brutal murder and torture in dealing with the Syrian people, and that any attempt to change its behavior is a waste of time and an insult to the Syrian victims who are waiting for justice.”
The SOC stressed the need to hold perpetrators of crimes accountable in international courts, achieve political transition in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, and give Syrians the opportunity to build a new state that is based on justice, freedom and dignity.
