The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stressed that the international community’s failure in Syria from the political and humanitarian point of view has worsened the tragedy of the Syrian people. It stressed that the Assad regime created this tragedy eleven years ago by killing Syrians and displacing them from their cities and towns to camps in unlivable areas, and contributed to generating new waves of refugees.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC said that many Syrians resort to emigration, despite its dangers, to escape the hell of Assad and Putin and in search of a decent life. “They are also leaving due to the dire humanitarian conditions in the areas under the control of the criminal regime and terrorist militias. These areas lack security and the basic necessities of a decent life, let alone the constant threat of death and arrest.
Added to these are the dire living conditions in the liberated areas due to the relentless bombardment by the Assad regime and its backers as well as terrorist militias. Moreover, Syrians are leaving due to the dwindling UN aid and constant threat by the Putin regime to use the veto in the Security Council against the resolution to extend the cross-border entry of humanitarian aid.”
The SOC also stressed that “the Syrian people are still suffering a major tragedy in all parts of Syria and in the IDP camps, while cherishing hope for achieving a political transition and holding the Assad regime accountable for its crimes so that they can return to their homes. However, the international failure and bias in favor of the Assad regime, attempts by some governments to normalize relations with the regime, and ignoring its countless crimes was another reason that killed their hope for returning to their homes.”
The SOC held the international community responsible for the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria as it is still giving the criminal Assad regime legitimacy in international forums, thus ignoring hundreds of documented crimes against civilians. Moreover, international inaction is encouraging the regime to complete its plan of displacement and demographic change, which only serves the Iranian regime and its sectarian militias.
The SOC called on all countries of the world and all free people everywhere to support reaching political transition, implementing Security Council Resolution 2254, ensuring accountability, and stopping the process of displacement and demographic change in Syria.
