The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said it strongly backs the escalating anti-regime protests seen in different parts of Syria, notably in southern provinces like Daraa and Suwayda, the Damascus suburb of Jaramana, and the coastal regions. Protestors are calling for the Assad regime’s overthrow, emphasizing its central role in causing Syria’s crises. They also emphasized the regime’s responsibility for worsening living conditions and essential services in its areas.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the SOC said that despite the regime’s current military control achieved through the implementation of a scorched-earth policy, the Assad regime, along with its allies, does not possess legitimate authority over Syrian territories. It stressed that the recurring anti-regime demonstrations, notwithstanding the regime’s efforts to suppress them through acts of violence, murder, and detentions, unequivocally reflect the Syrian people’s outright rejection of any presence for the Assad regime in Syria’s future.
The SOC firmly emphasized the necessity for liberated regions to stand in solidarity with the anti-regime protests taking place in the south. “This unity can be demonstrated through large-scale rallies, serving to underscore the shared objective of toppling the Assad regime. Syria’s future hinges upon the participation of its entire populace, as they strive to manifest the Syrian people’s collective aspiration for freedom, justice, and dignity—a future wherein the Assad regime has no place.”
The SOC earnestly appealed to both Arab and international media outlets, urging them to concentrate their coverage on these protests and meticulously track unfolding events. “It is paramount that the media accurately relay the voices and aspirations of the people, particularly as they boldly express their dissent within regions under the grip of the oppressive Assad regime.”
The SOC also called upon the Syrian populace across all provinces to unite against the Assad regime, fostering a collective effort to eradicate a war criminal who stands culpable for countless atrocities against innocent civilians.
