Member of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Munther Sarras, has underscored that Buthaina Shaaban’s remarks regarding the bombing of hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza are part of a manipulative exploitation of the Palestinian issue, reflecting a low-level political maneuvering from someone who has been complicit in the heinous crimes committed by the Assad regime against civilians in Syria throughout her life.
Sarras emphasized that the Assad regime has become a symbol of brutality, murder, and global criminality, with each reprehensible act becoming synonymous with the regime’s actions. He noted that the regime has perpetrated a wide array of crimes, including the bombing of hospitals, public facilities, places of worship, journalists, and relief convoys.
While condemning the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in Gaza as reprehensible and a disgrace to humanity, Sarras argued that the statements made by the Assad regime’s advisor surpass these acts. He highlighted Shaaban’s complicity in committing similarly horrendous acts.
Sarras added that these statements reveal the current state of decline in the world, where murderers and criminals assume the role of lecturing humanity and claim to be its defenders.
According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, the Assad regime and its allies targeted 897 medical facilities from March 2011 until October 2023. The report noted that last October witnessed at least 85 attacks on vital civilian facilities, with 74 of these attacks attributed to regime forces, primarily concentrated in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo. The documented attacks included 27 on educational facilities, 11 on medical facilities, and 13 on places of worship.
