The delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) to Cairo called for an active Arab role in Syria to confront the Iranian intervention and its malicious schemes in the region and its serious threat to Arab security. They stressed the need for an active Arab role in confronting the Iranian project, which targets not only Syria, but also all countries of the region.
The delegation stressed the need for the Arab League and Arab brothers to support the Syrian people’s demands for freedom and dignity, as well as to support the political transition in Syria in accordance with UN resolutions, most importantly resolutions 2254 and 2118.
The delegation began an official visit to the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday, during which it met with Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki. They discussed the need to maintain the isolation of the Assad regime and refuse to legitimize it or engage in rehabilitation of it. They also discussed ways to revitalize the political process and hand over Syria’s seat to the SOC as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
The delegation comprised the SOC’s Vice-president for Foreign Relations Abdulahad Astepho, Secretary General Haitham Rahma, and member of the Political Committee Badr Jamous.
