The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) warned of the consequences of the Assad regime’s serious escalation of attacks against civilians. The Assad regime carried out a bloody attack against displaced civilians by bombing several camps in western rural Idlib in the early morning hours of Sunday.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the SOC stressed that the brutal attack constitutes a war crime as six civilians were killed and 75 others were injured, the majority of whom are women and children. The attack involved the use of cluster bombs, an internationally prohibited weapon, while several airstrikes targeted other areas west of Idlib.
The SOC called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to take punitive measures against the perpetrators of these attacks against the Syrian people.
It added that the international community’s silence on the Assad regime’s massacres in Syria has encouraged the regime to commit more crimes and violations against innocent civilians in the liberated areas of Syria, without an effective deterrent that guarantees the safety of Syrian civilians.
