President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Nasr al-Hariri sent letters to the representatives of the new UN Security Council member states to congratulate them for formally joining the Council. The states are India, Mexico, Ireland, Kenya, and Norway. He stressed the importance of strengthening mutual relations and cooperation to reach a political solution in Syria.
Representatives of the new member states joined the UN Security Council on its first meeting in 2021. Al-Hariri sincerely extend his heartfelt wishes that 2021 will be a year of peace and prosperity, and an end to human suffering everywhere in the world.
He pointed out that the SOC seeks to enhance mutual relations with the new member states. “In parallel, we sincerely count on your commitment to continue supporting the Syrian people in their quest for freedom and democracy; and hope that our cooperation continues to be furthered and promoted with the objective of reaching a political solution in Syria.”
“We stress the importance of taking actual steps to achieve a complete and real political transition, in accordance with the Geneva Communiqué, Security Council Resolutions 2118 and 2254 and United Nations General Assembly Resolution 67/262 to reach a comprehensive political solution that fulfils the aspirations of the Syrian people, and helps them in overcoming this difficult plight and in building a state based on freedom, justice and good governance.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
