A delegation from the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) concluded a 3-day official visit to Iraqi Kurdistan Region during which they met with the Region’s leadership and discussed the major issues and challenges as well as the latest on the ground and political developments in Syria.
The delegation comprised President Nasr Al-Hariri, Vice-presidents Abdel Hakim Bashar and Ruba Habboush, Secretary General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of the Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, members of the political committee Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, Muhammad Salou, and Yasser Al-Farhan.
The visit was met with warm welcome and received widespread media coverage. The delegation met with the leader Masoud Barzani, Prime Minister of the Region, Masrour Barzani, and leaders of the regional parliament. The two sides stressed the importance of the distinguished bilateral relations and the Region’s hosting of around quarter of a million Syrian refugees. They also discussed the major challenges facing the region such as the continuing crimes of the Assad regime, the Iranian quest for regional hegemony, the threat of terrorist militias, ISIS, and the practices of the PKK terrorist organization.
The SOC’s delegation also met with representatives of the Kurdish National Council in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, the Union of Syrian Teachers in Erbil, the Union of Syrian Artists, and representatives of Syrian refugees in the region. The discussed the role of the Kurdish National Council in the liberated areas and the need for its participation in the local administration. They also talked about the conditions of Syrian refugees in the region, the conditions of students and teachers, and ways to improve these conditions. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
