The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) delegation, led by President Salem Al-Meslet, has undertaken a field visit to the Afrin region. During this visit, the delegation met with the local council, officials from service, health, and educational offices, as well as local dignitaries. Conversations encompassed the topics of service provision, living conditions, and the latest developments unfolding within the political and field contexts.
Among the SOC’s members joining President Al-Meslet were Ayman al-Asimi, Ahmed Tomeh, Najib Rahmoun, and Atef Zureik. A meeting took place with Muhammad Sheikh Rashid, the head of the local council in Afrin.
Deliberations encompassed strategies to address regional needs and challenges, with a particular emphasis on irrigation and the existing agricultural landscape. The delegation explored means of bolstering support, especially considering the region’s agricultural focus.
Furthermore, the delegation received a comprehensive overview of services offered by the local council. This included initiatives ranging from road construction and bridge building to infrastructural enhancements aimed at elevating citizens’ living standards. Mutual agreement was reached regarding the essentiality of economic capabilities to reinforce the community’s resilience in the region.
The delegation also engaged with the prevailing economic situation, acknowledging the limitations in financial resources required for the council’s expenses and citizens’ service provision. This scenario has been further exacerbated by the aftermath of the February earthquake and the resulting destruction. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
